Easy Ways to Save Money in 2013
The year is winding down, the holidays are here, and most of us are thinking of resolutions for the coming year. Does your list include financial changes that you want to make? If it does not then it should. Here are some easy ways that you may have heard of before that will save you money next year, if you follow them.
Shop with a list and stick to it. This does not just apply to the grocery store anymore. If you are out doing holiday shopping or just shopping for yourself, make a list of what stores you are going to go to and what you need from each store. Have you ever noticed that when you do not have a list you tend to make more impulse buys? Having a list and sticking to it will help you to curb these impulse buys, leaving you with more money.
Try tackling those projects you have for your home on your own. Home improvement projects may seem like they are difficult, but with the right how to book you can do the same job on your own. Not paying for labor will help you to save money, which means you can get more for your renovating budget.
Make sure that in the coming year you are comparing mortgage rates. Many people think that because they got a good deal when they got their mortgage that they have the best deal that they can get. This is not true. The market is in a great place for you to refinance right now and experts do not expect that to change in the beginning of the year. So look around and see if you truly have the best deal that you can get or if you can find a better one.
Go through your things at home. Do you have items that you no longer want but for some reason still have? Selling these items is not so much a way to save money as it is to make a little money, but it is still a good idea. The money you make from getting rid of your unwanted items can go toward something special that you have been wanting. You could also put this money into your savings account to give it a little boost.
This may be rather hard for some to do but you have to learn to say no to your wants. There is a difference between wants and needs and saying no to these wants can help you afford more of the needs. Buying things that we want but do not need causes us to spend a lot of money every year. That money would be better put into a savings or retirement account, not spent on things that you do not actually need.
Instead of buying new books or movies on a regular basis, why not go to your local library? It is totally free to get these things from the library provided that you bring it back on time. Think about how much farther your entertainment budget could go if you are not spending as much money on books and movies.
Many of us like to eat out, but have you really thought about how much this costs you? A lot of money is a sufficient answer. It is so much cheaper, and often healthier to make your own food. Bring your own lunch to work. You may want to go out with your coworkers but you do not need to. Not eating out as much will save you a lot of money in a short period of time, this does depend on how often you go out though.
There are so many more ways to save money in the coming year. Sit down with some friends and exchange ideas on how you can all save money. You never know what your friend might be doing that would work well for you. Take some time to think about ideas and write them down. If you are not sure that the idea you have is right for you that is okay, try it and see if it works, if so keep doing it, if not find another way to save.
