The first thing that you should do is focus on your goals, specifically why you have them. Focusing on the why of your goals instead of the how will help you to get there. If you are so worried about how you will get to your goal, it will be hard to actually do it. If you instead focus on why you have that goal you will not focus so much on how you will get to it, instead you will be able to just get to your goal because you are focusing on why you need to get to it.

You need to make sure that you are protecting your identity. If someone asks for your social security number you need to think about whether or not you need to get what you are trying to get and if it is worth giving out your social security number. Identity theft is no joke. Keeping your identity protected is a major way to keep your finances in check.
You need to make sure that you are organized. If you are not organized you could lose statements and bills and that can become a big problem. To improve your finances you need to become organized so that you know what you need to pay and what you have in what account.
